Anything Goes

Gaynor Hale - Director

Hello folks. This is it, my first show as director and nerve wracking it is too. I can distinctly remember a few moments of rising panic when I first said I would direct "Anything Goes", but they subsided somewhat after the show had been cast and I began to rehearse with our talented principals. It is a fun show with lots of glitter and glamour and some fabulous songs, so hopefully you will all go home having had a really enjoyable time.

My thanks must go to Jeff Rimmer for doing a terrific job as M.D. and Betty Hall and Sarah Culshaw for choreographing some memorable dance routines. I would also like to thank Sarah for teaching a tap class each week before our Thursday rehearsals; it certainly made choreographing the big tap number at the end of act one easier.

You have so many things to think about as director you need to know there are knowledgeable, experienced people to help you achieve the effects you want, so I would like to thank Tony Berry [lighting] and Bernie Howat [sound] for all their expertise and input. I would also like to thank Pete Beswick, our Stage Manager, and all the backstage crew for their hard work; the show couldn't run smoothly without them.

Finally, once you get into the theatre the show seems to take on a life of its own, and as director or choreographer you feel a bit left out of the fun and excitement backstage, so now it is over to the cast and crew to entertain you. Good luck to everyone.

Best wishes
Gaynor Hale
