Calamity Jane

When I was first invited to direct this, my first show, I knew
little of the story of Calamity Jane. I hadn’t even seen
the film right through, let alone the stage version. I know
a great deal more now than I did then about Martha
‘Calamity’ Jane Cannary, Wild Bill Hickock and the Wild
West… and about directing a musical!
At times, in rehearsals, I may have felt like ‘the soljers, out of ammunition, with
the injuns ridin’ in for the kill’, but I have always been rescued by my ‘Calamity
Janes’… Gaynor (Choreographer) and Jill (M.D.). Indeed, I have had huge
support from all the members of the company, not least our chairman, Betty.
