King and I

November 2007

Betty Hall - Director

Well, two roles rolled into one, however the welcome from me, as Chairman of MMTC and Director of the show is just as warm! This has been a great year for MMTC, including our 35th birthday celebrations, two successful shows, eight NODA nominations, a NODA award for Helen Illingworth, the formation of a concert group raising money for charities and a large, strong, dedicated membership of every age group. The year, however, has been tinged with sadness for all of us on the death of our popular President, Mr. David Banks and, once again, we send our love and support to his wife, Mary and I thank him for his support and help over the years.

As Director of this show, I welcome you to the palace of Phra Meha Mongut, King of Siam. It has been a pleasure for me to direct what I consider to be one of Rodgers and Hammerstein's greatest shows. It has it all, laughter, romance and tears. Its message is as pertinent today as it ever was regarding the integration of different cultures. On this show, I have worked with principals who could grace a West End stage, a versatile, talented chorus and a group of children who are a delight as you will see. May I thank the rest of the production team, who are STARS, and all involved backstage and front of house. Usually, I hope we send you out from one of our shows singing and dancing but onthis occasion if there is not a dry eye in the house we will have achieved our aim!

Finally, I would like to dedicate this show to the memory of David Banks who loved theatre and all it entailed.
