Review
Reviews - NODA North West
This show spans a period of 18 years (1928-1946) with a vast change in styles.
Unfortunately I think this society was let down by the costumiers which is a
shame, considering the hire charges one expects better. I am sure they must have
been disappointed. John Butterfield's production fared better however. Good
settings and sets helped to detract from the obvious wrong periods. Davida
Bentham as Maine and Mollie Jackson as Vera were good foils for one another,
although I couldn't help wondering how they would have looked in reversed roles.
Carol Kennedy as Agnes must take the acting honours for this show, and the
transformation to vamp was quite incredible. Jerry Herman's Musical numbers were
well punched out although the chorus got lost once or twice. I felt Doreen
Bridson could have given them a stronger lead in from the pit. A special mention
for 'Young Patrick' who sustained his performance throughout.
