NODA Review

I did enjoy Neil Townsend's production of The Sound Of Music . A nice, easy performance was given by Anita Owens as Maria. Although Mark Duffy's Captain von Trapp was a little disappointing, resulting from weak delivery, I know he is capable of better projection.

Team B that was performing the night I attended was very good indeed, as was Liesl, played by Bethan Blase. The Mother Abbess (Irene Halliday) gave a sympathetic performance, although her singing was strained on her top notes. Mollie Jackson, Joan

Albertina and Mary Banks as Sisters Bertha, Margaretta and Sophie were good. I always find Davida Betham gives a strong performance in an acting role. Yvonne Purdue gave one of the best portrayals of the evening as Elsa. John Draper also gave us a likeable Max.

At times, the artistes were at odds with the musical director, Edna Lally, but managed to redeem themselves to give us a very enjoyable evening.
