NODA Review

This was an excellent show and was a very entertaining evening thanks to the capable hands of producer Mollie Jackson and musical director Edna Lally. It must be heartening when a society can put "House Full" signs up at the beginning of a run.

The costumes were colourful and appropriate for the period and characters. Although the sets were good, at times there were noisy scene changes and long pauses.

Paula Harrison and Mark Duffy complemented each other as Annie and Frank. Paula made an ideal Annie Oakley. She was very vivacious and moved well in all the musical numbers. Mark Duffy's singing and personality were just right for the role of Frank Butler.

Charlie Formby as Charlie Davenport kept the pace going throughout the show. Alyson Lee and Martin Parry (Winnie and Tommy) made the most of their duets, showing that not only could they sing but they could dance as well. Jacquie Wade as Dollie Tate was good, especially in the scene with Chief Sitting Bull.

The chorus tackled the dance numbers proficiently. The choreography by Patricia Robertson was excellent. It was shown to advantage in I'm An Indian Too and again when the chorus provided the tap backing for Winnie and Tommy in Who Do You Love, I Hope?

The minor principals and chorus all added to the success of the show, proving that there really is No Business Like Show Business.
