A week today we would have been a the theatre for the get in, building and prepping our set, the next day would be the famous tech rehearsal ( this is for the lighting, sound and crew more than the cast!) Tuesday the Dress rehearsal and on the wednesday we would be donning our costumes for the boys it would be cowboy boots, Stetsons and guns. For the girls, western s

Sometimes it's ok, not to be ok!

Mental Health Awareness week This week in the UK it is Mental Health Awareness week. This year's theme is kindness, with the week running from 18 - 24 May. Mental health awareness is particularly important to all of us at MMTC, we believe that by being involved in the world of performing arts, getting people out and into a community has an incredibly positive effect on all members. It allows us to form bonds and connections akin to that of family. For our members, by stepping

We can't wait to see YOU!

It was with a heavy heart that the committee here at Maghull Musical Theatre Company had to make the difficult decision, that due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown enforced by the UK government, that we ended our rehearsals and rescheduled all upcoming performances. There is no denying it: We actors can be a superstitious bunch. Perhaps it is the flare for dramatic tendencies or a mixture of nerves and a pinch of paranoia before a performance, but whatever the reason there are a fair few superstition linked to the theatre! Here are a few you may or may not know about! “Break a Leg” Well-wishers should always replace the phrase “good luck” with its theatrical substitute “break a leg.” There are a wide variety of possible origins for this

    Keeping busy during lock down

I don't know about you, but I think it's fair to say we are all missing the theatre, whether it's a catch up at rehearsals, singing our favourite songs or getting rid of some energy dancing, we all wish we could get back to what we love most! At MMTC we see ourselves as a family, and during lockdown we are all missing not only our physical family but the love and support of our theatre family. So to keep spirits up we have been working together to keep each other entertained,

    Leave a (ghost) light on...

The ghost light is a light that gets left switched on, on the stage while the theatre is empty.  It is usually a single naked bulb on a stand placed downstage centre. The primary reason for leaving a light switched on is of course safety. However during these strange and unknowing times, it is a comfort for us to know there is a light on, a light ray of hope during dark and dismal times. A light to say 'WE WILL RETURN' our stage is waiting and we cannot wait to fill it! A gho
